I often get asked the question “what can I do before hiring you to design my site?” and I love answering this question because it means this business owner is engaged in their investment, and wants to come to the table as prepared as possible.
There are a few things that need to be set in place before working with a designer, and then there is the “nice to have” list. Let’s start with the absolute must haves first!
Must have before working with any web designer:
Business name and license registered
List of services or products you want added to the website
Understanding of your ideal audience
Be able to answer the "5 questions" (you can read more about that here)
Nice to have before working with a web designer like me:
Branding Package (primary logo, secondary logo, color palette, icon, etc)
Marketing goals or plans for the current year
Vision for your brand/site - I recommend creating a mood board or a Pinterest board with your specific style inspiration
Competitor Analysis - list of 2-3 direct competitors and what you like/don’t like about their website and general marketing practice
Website Inspo - a website that you admire, and what you like about it (competitor or not)
These are just general recommendations, each designer is different and may have more or less requirements to work with them.
